Fresh Comedy brings the funny to Festivale with a stellar line up of comedic talent, featuring Tassie’s funniest folks and headlined by Australian Comedy legends Dave O'Neil, Claire Hooper and Randy.
Scroll down for a full list of the lineup.
Dave O’Neil has been in the business of comedy for over 20 years and is one of Australia’s most recognisable stand-up comics, having performed at 16 Melbourne International Comedy Festivals and at dozens of comedy clubs nationally.
On screen you will have seen Dave as Team Captain in the ABC TV comedy quiz show Tractor Monkeys, as well as dishing out life advice in The Agony of Life, The Agony of Modern Manners, The Agony of The Mind, Can of Worms, plus messing about on Adam Hills In Gordon Street Tonight and Good News Week. He is probably most well known for the honour of being the guest with the most appearances (over 50) on ABC TV’s ever popular Spicks & Specks.
As well as his stand up and television career, Dave is a skilled radio broadcaster, and has been a part of successful teams on Nova 100 (with Kate Langbroek and Dave Hughes), Vega 91.5/Classic Rock FM (with Sean Micallef, Denise Scott, Chrissie Swan and Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson), and most recently on ABC Radio Melbourne.
He has written several books, including his latest The Summer of ’82, and Everything Tastes Better Crumbed… and other BIG Statements. Dave has written and acted in films (including starring alongside Eric Bana in ‘The Nugget’), and contributed to numerous sketch comedy shows.
Dave’s observational humour and genuine humility has also made him a much sought after MC and corporate entertainer.
“An atmosphere some comedians would kill to be able to generate, sitting in Dave O’Neil’s audience is genuinely to feel like you’ve stumbled into a relaxed conversation among friends… there’s an engaging affability… unprepossessingly good-spirited fun.” Chortle

Claire Hooper started on the stage – crafting engaging, innovative live shows that blended stand-up, theatre and some hammer dancing.
Her 2006 show, ‘Oh’, earned her both critical acclaim and a nomination for the Melbourne Comedy Festival’s Best Newcomer award. A born storyteller with a sharp wit, Claire has gone on to regularly perform at festivals and comedy rooms all over the country.
For four years Claire shared a set with Paul McDermott and Mikey Robbins on the iconic comedy show Good News Week as a team captain. She has also appeared on Rove and The Melbourne Comedy Festival’s Great Debate and Opening Night Gala.
Over the last decade, Claire has been captivating audiences and touring brilliant solo shows across the country to critical acclaim. She returned to the stage in 2018 with her brand-new show All The Rage, touring comedy festivals around Australia.
In 2015 Claire scored her dream job, as co-host of The Great Australian Bake Off for Foxtel’s LifeStyle Channel alongside the seriously funny Mel Buttle, as well as judges Maggie Beer and Matt Moran and they have just shot their fourth season.
A regular on Australian television screens (The Yearly with Charlie Pickering, The Chaser's Media Circus, Spicks and Specks and Good News Week), Randy spends a lot of time writing and touring with his musical partner in crime, Sammy J.
Together they have hosted the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala, appeared on Q&A and The Project, written and toured live shows such as Bin Night, The Inheritance and Sammy J and Randy Land, performed a few times at The Sydney Opera House, released an album and a couple of DVDs, got nominated for a couple of ARIAs and featured on the Neil Patrick Harris Gala at the 2015 Montreal Just For Laughs Festival.
In 2010 Randy and Sammy J created Ricketts Lane, which won Best Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and went on to become a television series of the same name, airing on ABC TV in Australia, Seeso in the US and Netflix in the UK.
In 2016 Randy Writes a Novel was nominated for best comedy at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival and went on to do a season at the Soho Theatre in London. His show Randy's Anti-Crisis toured Australia in 2018, winning critical appraise and a weekly award for best comedy at The Adelaide Fringe Festival.
